Re:  Huddleston Native and Liberty University Student Stephen Berry Competes in Star Studded Charity Race in Richmond

Local racer and Liberty University student Stephen Berry drove the “Liberty University Chevy Impala” Late Model Stock Car to a 9th place finish in the 3rd annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown Thursday, April 29th at the Southside Speedway in Midlothian, VA.   Stephen avoided having to run the last chance heat race by qualifying 13th out of the 38 drivers to attempt to make the field.  The top 20 qualifiers were assured a starting spot and rest of the field had to race the 30 lap last chance race to fill 10 more spots to make up the 30 car field.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Drivers who competed included Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Curtis Markham, Kevin Harvick, Elliott Sadler, Marcos Ambrose, and Aric Almirola.

The proceeds of this event benefit the Denny Hamlin Foundation which primarily raises awareness and funding for the specific needs of individuals afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis and also supports chronically ill children with other debilitating illnesses.

Berry had to avoid multiple wrecks in the 250 lap action packed crowd pleaser.  The atmosphere was electric as a packed house of enthusiastic fans got to see their favorite drivers close up during driver introductions.

Stephen out qualified many of the Cup drivers and finished the race ahead of Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Elliott Sadler, Curtis Markham, Kevin Harvick, Bobby Labonte, and Aric Almirola.
